KAROO Dog Food (simply known as KAROO) is another brand that is made by the Montego Pet Nutrition Family. Montego is known for delivering quality, value for money kibble for your dogs. The KAROO range carries on this tradition.

Montego describes KAROO as a super premium diet. It is considered a better quality dog food than their Classic Dog Food Range, and of course at a higher price. A higher price is not always a bad thing, provided that the quality of the product you are buying matches the value you are getting for it.

Does KAROO cater for your dog?

The KAROO range has been designed to cater for all dogs, from small breed puppies to your senior aged old faithful. Their range is as follows:

  • Small Breed Puppy
  • Large Breed Puppy
  • Adult
  • Senior

The Adult and Senior ranges do not have separate pellet sizes for small and large breed dogs. They have a one-size-fits-all approach where their pellets are small enough for small (not minute) breeds to easily chew. They also do not specify at what age their senior range starts, this is most likely because large and small breed dogs start their senior years at very different times. But I think we all know when our dogs are reaching their ‘senior years’!

The KAROO Puppy, Adult and Senior are available in 1.75kg, 8 kg and 20 kg bags. If you want to test KKAROO on your dog I recommend first purchasing one of the smaller bags, just in case it has a reaction with your dog or your dog does not like the taste, you do not waste a 20kg bag.

Why chose KAROO?

  1. Due to KAROO being manufactured in the Montego factory in Graaff-Reinet, is in ‘manufactured’ under the same quality controls as the other Montego ranges – read more here….
  2. Quality ingredients are used
  3. High in Protein (22%). The protein comes from a mix of lamb, chicken and ostrich.

  6. Contains immune system boosting antioxidants and vitamins to help keep your dog healthy
  7. Contains inulin and sugar beet pulp which are prebiotics (dietary fibres) that aid digestion

    1. Hi Shaylin
THe Montego range is good value for money, provivded that your dog enjoys the taste and does not have any negative reactions to it. It would recommend getting a few samples of their different ranges from your local pet food supply stroe.

  3. Hi,

I have a diabetic dog and looking for affordable dog food options. She is currently on Vets choice lite, which the vet recommended. Is there any other options I can look at as well? I know it would need to be high protein and less grain.

  4. Hi,
I recently purchased a 20kg bag of Montego Karoo Senior, and my dogs have experienced upset, runny tummys with throwing up. I stopped the Montego Karoo Senior, and bought a different dog food. There was an immediate turnaround in my dogs’ tummy health after a day.I tried the Montego Karoo Senior again after a few days and my dogs had upset tummy’s once again. This is not the first bag of Montego Karoo Senior, that i have used.
Please advise if there have been any other instances of the same reported. I am currently reluctant to feed the Montego Karoo Senior, to my dogs for fear of them getting sick.

    Thank you
    Regards,
    Videsh Narsee

    1. Hi Videsh

I personally use the Karoo senior range on my dog and have not had these issues. It could just be that your dogs digestive system does not agree with it. Find what works for your dogs and stick to it:)

  5. Good day,

I have 6 rescue adult dogs that have been on Montego Classic for many years and all are very healthy. One thing they all do is eat sand 🙁 … especially when the sand is wet. What mineral do you think they are not getting? Your help will be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Anita

    1. Hi Anita

That is very strange that they all eat sand. I think it would be best to contact your local vet for advice as it may not be a mineral deficiency.

  6. Good day, I have been feeding my dogs Montego Karoo for about 10yrs and have always been very happy with it. There is a strong smell of stale oil. Other people have also commented on it and they avoid it because of this. Do you know if this is something to worry about?

  7. Hi. I have boerboels that have been on montego from puppy. They are all healthy and strong – my new puppy is 1year and 8 months and weighs 80kg. I have recently moved to montego karoo and they love it. Skin is shinning and they seem to be less hungry and poep less 🙂 Well done, love montego.
